The 2 Services I Am Using For A Algorithm Free Experience Of Social Media

So that the algorithm doesn't use me

The internet is a sea of knowledge.

Of course, there are popular services that we currently use allowing us to take a dip into it and enjoy the experience and wealth of knowledge.

The caveat is Algorithms direct us in our quest for knowledge.

These were the 2 services I've come across that break the mould.

Substack: A Medium for Traditional Writers

I think anyone who has ever published any kind of writing online is aware of Substack.

What I like about the substack is the unintrusive interface to concentrate on the writing. It seems to come across as the antithesis of social media. It provides a platform to write long-form posts, podcasts and video content to be shared with a subset of people that are interested in your content.

It is reviving the age-old email newsletters as the source of consuming media.

Vero: A Chronology of Instax-like pictures

I was surprised to come across this little gem of a service.

The legitimacy of this service can be seen through the lens of photographers jumping the ship from Instagram.

Who would have thought that Photographers wanted to click pictures and not make reels? Certainly not folks at Meta.

It is a simple service that allows posting any form of content, be it pictures, music, videos etc. and it segregates them in a tabbed format.

The best part is it displays the feed in chronological order from the people that you follow without the noise that an algorithm adds to your feed.

But here's the thing:

Being forced to jump from one service to another seems to be a common problem in the social media world that is hell-bent on using its own users.

Is there a better solution? May be. Will we get that solution? Maybe Not!
