Living in Germany is a tough challenge without a camera

The Chill of Bavarian Landscapes & the Coldness of Munich

Hi Folks,

I am diving back into my archives full of photos I clicked during my early days in Munich. I have been revisiting old pictures frequently for inspiration, nostalgia, and, more importantly, the calming experience. I will tell you whether it is working or not, and what is working.

I landed in Munich in February 2022

Munich wasn’t cold enough for me. I landed in Munich after I decided to move away from Chicago, a pit stop in Mumbai, and straight into my new job. Full of skepticism, I was in Munich for the next phase of my life. Small problem, life was yet to take off from elsewhere to make its way to Munich.

I decided to confide in my writing and my newfound curiosity for Photography.

People in Munich are unlike those I met in Chicago

I received a lot of raised eyebrows when I broke the news to my friends and colleagues in Chicago about potentially moving to Germany. There was never a warning sign moving to Germany, and I missed them all.

Cold, stern stares and occasional Servus or Halo on the streets and cafes of Munich replaced the smile-filled greetings from the streets of Chicago.

Thank God for the beautiful landscapes of the city, my camera was a great companion to explore the streets of Munich.

In that sense, what a great way to live, if you could always do things that interest you, and do them with people who interest you. - Anthony Bourdain

Being Adventurous with great company

If ever I have the opportunity to witness great landscapes in nature or unique phenomena, I prefer it to be with a great company.

So when my travel partner joined me in my escapades, I was more than happy to share my view with her.

Change is difficult, carry your routines

I grew up reading and learning about great stories from Europe. Finally, I was here, living a dream, but a lot of it was left to my interpretation. It got uncomfortable, and then it became part of the new routine, a new way of living a life, making it my own.

Photography taught me one thing that I may not be the first one to explore or discover something, but it is my unique perspective that makes the travel & photograph unique.

Slowly but surely, I was realizing that storytelling is not about the grandeur of the worlds but about the journey of the characters.

I was beginning to feel comfortable in my arc.

Life in Munich might be in the past, but the story arc is just getting interesting.
