As a kid, wandering the narrow alleys of a small suburb in Mumbai, I learned the art of survival. The city, widely known for its tough love is unique in its nature. It taught me to dream big. It made me realize that dreams take a lot of hustle to turn into a reality. The city toughened me up and made me a man someone could count on. I was ready for the challenge of life.
Carrying that Mumbai spirit in me, it was time to find a place of my own in the world.
With the nervous energy of taking on a new challenge mixed with the spirit of the city I grew up in, I felt something special brewing in me.
I was always taught to stay on my toes. The city of Mumbai teaches you, one way or the other, never to stand still, or you will be left behind. It will humble the ones who let go of their roots. It will launch those who believe in themselves unapologetically. One thing I knew was that a Mumbai boy will not fail at something he sets on to do.
And I wasn't disappointed, the magic of the city coupled with hard work and luck brought me to a beautiful venture.
The windy city is not for everyone, it's brutal and loving, and it refuses to let you hide.
The surreal part of walking into an unknown city is the introduction between the city and you.
The city is getting to know you, and while you are learning the ways of a new city, the only way to navigate through the early phase is with mutual respect. Only if you are sure of yourself as a person, will you be able to accept a new city completely. I, knowing my roots, submerged myself in this wonderful city of Chicago, letting its magic and courage blend with the spirit of Mumbai in me.
The result is this alchemy of the human spirit and the magic of the city that forms this elixir guaranteed to transform a person.
Life of a nomad might take you places but it takes something special to find your own place through all your travels.
While I move on from the windy city, leaving behind the cold weather and warm people, I wanted to share that a city can teach you a lot if you allow it.
More importantly, it will teach you a lot about yourself.
